Shopping for the Wrong Ingredients

Today whilst I was out gathering ingredients for a receipt I’d decided to make, I misread or misunderstood the label on the packaging I’d picked up, and also, failed to buy flat-leaf parsley. It is not the first time I have done this. As this happened before, instead of producing a mishmash of a concoction at the stove, I decided to write a list of food name translations I could keep with me whilst shopping and share with others. Seeing as I had no list, and was unable to find any flat-leaf parsley, not knowing the translation prevented me from asking and therefore locating the produce resulting in no Chanfana. Perhaps the flat-leaf parsley is not in season.

As for the Chanfana seen left. It may be possible that the full name of the recipe I wished to make, is Chanfana (Miranda do Corvo). From what I gather, Chanfana, originated in Miranda do Corvo, Coimbra. The chanfana is a dish of traditional folk origin of Portugal. It is a dish based on old goat meat, which can also be made from pork and is generally cooked inside black pots (containers) in wood-fired ovens, dipped in red wine, garlic, bay leaves, pepper, paprika and salt. The dish can be found here.

I had a particular reason for wanting to make this particular dish. It was because a short time after my arrival here, in Portugal, I first tried Chanfana in Miranda do Corvo. I must confess that my initial impression from a visual point of view was not great. Having said this, on transferring some from the customary black dish to my plate and tasting it, I was highly impressed with the flavor and texture of the meat. It was served with bread and red wine also.
